While doing some research on rescue hounds that have in some way “saved “their humans, I came across this amazing story that is the epitomy of “who saved who”? that we hear so often. I have been given permission to share this story from “Hope Rises”, about a Southern hound named Victoria and her very thankful rescuer.  Hope Rises is an oasis of hope in a world that is sometimes very scary.  I recommend you check it out !!

HERO HOUND.
This rescue dog sniffed out cancer on her owner’s nose. Let’s all stop and hug our own dogs today for being incredibly, loyal angels. Read more from Lauren Amy.
“Victoria came from a rural shelter in South Carolina and brings us laughter and adventure. But recently, she brought me much more.
Last spring, I noticed a small bump on my nose and assumed it was a pimple or scratch. It went away. And then seemed to come back. And what was particularly odd was that Victoria would fixate on it, and sniff the spot like crazy. She was so persistent that I made an appointment with a doctor to have it looked at. I also captured a photo of her inspection.
What Victoria had detected was confirmed by a biopsy.
I had basal cell carcinoma on my nose. The lesion grew under my skin, requiring cosmetic surgical repair of the hole it left behind.
I have no doubt that without Victoria’s help, that lesion would have remained in my face longer and caused further disfigurement and even risked metastasis.”

Thanks to her heroic hound Victoria, who she adopted eight months ago from her organization Magic’s Mission Beagle and Hound Rescue, she had her symptoms checked out early. Lauren said: “When she came to us in the shelter she arrived with a very badly damaged eye. After fostering her we fell in love and decided to adopt her. “While we don’t know what caused the injuries to her eye, many hounds sustain wounds while hunting because they are brave and hardly think of what they are running through when chasing something.” According to Lauren, Victoria has more than returned the favor of being rescued.
